To help students to form competition groups and begin developing their competition entry.
One hour maximum
► 5 minutes
Explain to students that, building on the information in the previous lesson, it is time to decide what they would like their competition entry to be.
► 10 minutes Ask students to form their competition groups and use what they have learnt about the House of Lords make a list of the:
Ask each group to feedback, making a list of the qualities and experience on the board.
► 10 minutes
Once all groups have fed back ask each group to add qualities/experience they didn’t think of to their list and consider who they would nominate based on their group list: stress that it doesn’t have to be a famous person!
Ask each group to feedback who they have selected, justifying their decision.
Ask the groups to think about how they will put their case forward: will they make a short film, produce a podcast, write an essay, create a collage or submit a newspaper or magazine article? They will need to decide which format will suit the subject (the person they’re nominating) and their argument.
Now they have decided how they want to do it it’s time to decide which jobs need to take place: research, filming, design etc and split them up among the group and come up with a plan of action!
