Work and Pensions Committee Press Notice

'Select Committee to inquire into child support reform'

The House of Commons Work and Pensions Committee today announced an inquiry "to consider the proposals contained in the Government White Paper: A new system of child maintenance."

The Committee seeks written contributions on the questions set out in the White Paper from interested organisations and individuals. Due to the consultation time frame and the need for the Committee to feed into this process the deadline for written evidence is 9 January 2006. Because of the short time available the Committee requests that all submissions should be:

€ no longer than 2,000 words

€ in Word format with as little use of colour as possible

€ emailed to the Committee, where possible including full details and postal address

Material submitted to the Department's consultation should not form the basis of a submission to the Committee, but may be referred to within a memorandum, in which case a copy of the work should be attached. It can also be forwarded to the Committee for background information and will be circulated to all Committee Members.

Written submissions should be submitted in accordance with the guidelines below.

Oral hearings will take place early in the new year; provisionally on the mornings of Wednesday 17 January and 24 January.

Please note:

Each submission should begin with a short summary in bullet point form. The paragraphs in the text of the submission should be numbered.

A guide for written submissions to the Committee may be found on the parliamentary website at:
