Welsh Affairs Committee and National Assembly for Wales Committee statement on joint meeting to discuss red meat industry LCO
The Welsh Affairs Committee and the National Assembly for Wales Committee on the Proposed Red Meat Industry LCO last week held an informal joint meeting by video-link to exchange information about their scrutiny of the red meat industry LCO.
Members of the Assembly committee outlined their conclusions about the proposed Order and both committees exchanged views and information. Cross-border matters were also discussed, and the two committees pledged to encourage closer working between MPs and AMs in the future.
The Welsh Affairs Committee will be taking evidence on the proposed Order on Monday 15 December, in Cardiff, from Elin Jones, the Welsh Assembly Government’s Minister for Rural Affairs, and from Wayne David MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Wales Office.
The Chairman of the Welsh Affairs Committee, Dr Hywel Francis MP, said:
“Our meeting last week was a timely and useful discussion, and will certainly inform my committee’s scrutiny of the red meat industry LCO. I look forward to these meetings becoming a regular feature of our work programme.”
Mick Bates AM, Chair of the National Assembly’s committee, said:
“I was pleased this video-link session proved to be useful to our respective committees. I will encourage other Assembly legislative committees to utilise such innovative means of communication to discuss future LCOs with our colleagues in Westminster.”
