Press Notice No 19
PRE-LEGISLATIVE SCRUTINY OF THE PROPOSED LEGISLATIVE COMPETENCE ORDER IN COUNCIL RELATING TO HOUSING
The Welsh Affairs Select Committee is to conduct pre-legislative scrutiny on the proposed Legislative Competence Order in Council relating to housing, which has been referred to the Committee by the Secretary of State.
The Committee is to take evidence from Jocelyn Davies AM, Deputy Minister for Housing, Welsh Assembly Government, on Monday 23 June, and from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Wales Office, on Tuesday 1 July. Further details of these meetings are given below. A further announcement will be made shortly should the Committee decide to take additional evidence.
Although the Assembly Committee appointed for the examination of an earlier version of this proposed Order has already published its Report, the Chairs of both Committees have announced their intention to work closely together in the scrutiny of the revised Order.
Chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee, Dr Hywel Francis MP, said:
"The Welsh Affairs Committee is very keen to share its evidence dealing with this important LCO on housing. In discussions with its Chair, Leanne Wood AM, we agreed that the best way to progress this LCO would be to ensure that the Assembly's Report is fully considered by my Committee. As the two Chairs, we also agreed to work closely over the coming four weeks in recognition of our joint desire to achieve an early completion of the scrutiny process."
Chair of the Assembly LCO Committee, Leanne Wood AM, said:
"The LCO Committee is working with Welsh Affairs Committee. The Assembly's voice is being heard and our Report will be taken into account by the Westminster Committee. We are working together to scrutinise the Welsh Assembly Government's proposals relating to housing. We look forward to working together over the coming weeks.”
