ORAL EVIDENCE SESSIONS

1. RESTORING CONFIDENCE IN LONG-TERM SAVINGS

A preparatory evidence session on relevant issues was held with savings/life insurance industry experts on November 11.  This evidence may be viewed shortly at www.parliament.uk/parliamentary_committees/treasury.committee.cfm.  (The terms of reference for the inquiry are available in press notice number 51, available from the same website.)

As part of this inquiry an evidence session, focusing on the area of mortgage endowments, will be held as follows:

Tuesday 2 December at 9.30 am:  National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, the Consumers' Association, the Financial Services Consumer Panel;
And at 10.15 am (approx): Financial Services Authority and the Financial Ombudsman Service

2. THE 2003 PRE-BUDGET REPORT

The Chancellor of the Exchequer will publish the 2003 Pre-budget Report on Wednesday 10 December at 12.30pm.  The Committee has drawn-up the following programme of evidence

Monday 15 December at 4.00pm: Expert commentators including National Institute of Economic and Social Research, the Institute for Fiscal Studies

Tuesday 16 December at 9.30am: HM Treasury officials

Thursday 18 December at 9.30am: The Chancellor of the Exchequer and HM Treasury officials

These meetings will be preceded by a private deliberative meeting of the Committee to which the press and public will not be admitted. Meetings may be subject to last minute changes to or addition of witnesses. 

These meetings will be held in a Committee Room of the House of Commons or Portcullis House.  Those wishing to attend meetings should check the venue by contacting the House of Commons Public Information Office on 020 7219 4272 on the day before the hearing.
