TREASURY COMMITTEE INVITES BUILDING SOCIETIES TO GIVE EVIDENCE

As part of its inquiry into the Banking Crisis the Treasury Committee will take evidence from building societies on Wednesday 4 February at 4pm in the Wilson room, Portcullis House. The session will follow evidence from representatives of the media (at 2.30pm):

The witnesses will be as follows:

€ Adrian Coles, Director General, Building Societies Association
€ Iain Cornish, Chief Executive, Yorkshire Building Society
€ Neville Richardson, Chief Executive, Britannia Building Society

Issues likely to come up are:

€ The competition impact of consolidation within the building society sector
€ Resilience of building societies to the current financial crisis
€ The impact on consumers of the current financial crisis
€ Reforms to regulatory capital and liquidity requirements
€ The operation of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme
