Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee: Appointment Hearings

The Treasury Committee has arranged the following evidence session on the appointments of Professor Tim Besley and Andrew Sentance as external members of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee:

This meeting is likely to be held in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House, House of Commons, but this is subject to change. Those wishing to attend the meetings should check the venue by contacting the House of Commons Public Information Office on 020 7219 4272 on the day before the hearing.

1. The Treasury Committee has established a practice of holding hearings with persons appointed to the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of England and reporting on those hearings. This practice enhances the transparency of the appointment process and increases the level of information available to the public and to Parliament about the functioning of the MPC.
2. Committee membership is as follows: Rt Hon John McFall (Chairman), Mr Colin Breed, Jim Cousins, Angela Eagle, Mr Michael Fallon (Chairman, Sub-Committee), Mr David Gauke, Ms Sally Keeble, Mr Andrew Love, Kerry McCarthy, Mr George Mudie, Mr Brooks Newmark, John Thurso, Mr Mark Todd, Peter Viggers.
