THE WHITE PAPER ON MODERNISING COMPANY LAW
Publication of Report
The Trade and Industry Select Committee will publish its Sixth Report of Session 2002-03, The White Paper on Modernising Company Law (HC 439) on Tuesday 13 May 2003 at 10.00 am.
The Committee has concentrated on a few key questions of principle:
the duties of directors (both executive and non-executive, and including issues arising from the Higgs Review into the role of non-executive directors);
how to protect the independence of auditors;
the role of institutional investors in ensuring good corporate governance; and
whether - and if so, how - companies should be required to report on their environmental, social and employment policies.
Embargoed copies for witnesses and members of the press will be available from 11.00 am on Monday 12 May from the Committee offices at 7 Millbank. If you wish to collect a copy, please telephone in advance. Witness copies not collected by 5.00 pm on Monday will be posted first class. Further copies may be purchased from the Stationery Office (inquiries: 0870 600 5522) and will be available on our website at the address below after publication.
The Committee will hold a press conference to announce the publication in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House, at 10.00 am on Tuesday 13 May, when Members of the Committee will be available to answer questions.
