Inquiry into Trade and Investment Opportunities with Brazil
As part of a series of inquiries into UK trading relations with the rapidly developing 'BRIC' [Brazil, Russia, India, China] countries, the Trade and Industry Committee is today announcing an inquiry into trade and investment opportunities with Brazil. Brazil is one of the most rapidly developing economies in the world, with a GDP per head considerably higher than that of India or China, and a growing prosperous middle class with sophisticated tastes; but in 2004 UK exports to Brazil were valued at only £792 million, giving the UK a market share of 2.6 percent. The Committee intends to focus on:
the difficulties and opportunities faced by UK businesses wishing to trade, or forge investment links, with Brazil, with particular reference to opportunities in the IT, lifesciences, oil and gas, aerospace and financial services sectors; and
the role of the UK Government in assisting businesses, including the relative responsibilities of UK Trade and Investment and the Regional Development Agencies.
The Committee invites written submissions to this inquiry to be sent to the Clerk at the address above by 5.00 pm on Monday 25 September 2006.
For further information please call the Committee Office on 020 7219 5777/5779.
