The Government Energy Review: Extension of Committee's terms of reference
On 1 February the Trade and Industry Committee launched the first of a series of inquiries into energy policy, arising from the terms of reference of the Government's review of the UK's medium to long-term energy needs. The Committee decided to concentrate initially on three areas (the particular considerations that should apply to nuclear new build; the implications of increasing dependence on gas imports; and the capacity of microgeneration to meet a substantial proportion of UK electricity demand in the medium and long-term).
In light of the growing reliance of UK electricity generating companies on coal imports, the Committee has now decided to add a further issue:
The Committee invites written submissions on the coal issue to be sent to the Clerk at the address above by 5.00 pm on Monday 5 June 2006.
For further information please call the Committee Office on 020 7219 5777/5779.
