Trade and Investment Opportunities with Mercosur: Extension of Committee's terms of reference
On 24 July the Trade and Industry Committee launched an inquiry into trade and investment opportunities with Brazil.
However, it has become clear that trade relations with Brazil have to be viewed in a wider context, so the Committee has now decided to expand its terms of reference to consider trade and investment opportunities with Mercosur, the South American trade bloc, with special reference to Brazil as the largest member of that organisation. The Committee intends to concentrate on two main areas:
the difficulties and opportunities faced by UK businesses wishing to trade, or forge investment links, with Mercosur countries, with particular reference to opportunities in the IT, lifesciences, oil and gas, aerospace and financial services sectors; and
the role of the UK Government in assisting businesses, including the relative responsibilities of UK Trade and Investment and the Regional Development Agencies.
The Committee invites written submissions to be sent to the Clerk at the address above by 5.00 pm on Tuesday 9 January 2007.
