PN 101 PRESS NOTICE
FUTURE COMMITTEE INQUIRY INTO THE UK AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
Following considerable interest from the Press in the possibility that the Trade and Industry Committee will undertake an inquiry into the UK car manufacturing industry, it seems sensible to clarify the Committee's intentions and the possible timetable for such an investigation.
The Committee has agreed a programme of work on which it will be engaged for several months. It has yet to consider the scope and timing of any inquiry into the car industry.
Martin O'Neill, Chairman of the Committee said: "While we have not had the opportunity to discuss the issue, I feel that the time is right for us to undertake a wide-ranging investigation into the state of the UK automotive sector, to follow up the inquiry we undertook in the previous Parliament. Given the Committee's current commitments, however, we cannot begin work on this issue at the moment. I anticipate that we would announce the scope and timing of the new inquiry early in the New Year."
