New Chairman

At its meeting on Wednesday 17 May, the Select Committee on Modernisation of the House of Commons chose Mr Jack Straw MP, the Leader of the House, as its new Chairman. The Committee has been chaired by the Leader of the House since it was first established in 1997.


Public evidence session

The House of Commons Modernisation Committee will hold the following public evidence session in connection with its inquiry into The Legislative Process:

An uncorrected version of the transcript will appear on these pages within about a week of the date of the session. This is the third public evidence sessions for this inquiry. The Committee has previously heard evidence from:

Natascha Engel MP, David Howarth MP, and Mr David Kidney MP (10 May); and

Philip Cowley, Reader in Parliamentary Government, University of Nottingham, Alexandra Kelso, Department of Government, University of Strathclyde, Dawn Oliver, Professor of Constitutional Law, University College London (17 May).

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 20, Upper Committee Corridor. As Committee Rooms are liable to change, those attending are advised to check the room location on arrival.
