A debate on the Committee’s Report

On Thursday 15 December there will be a debate in Westminster Hall on Scientific Publications. The debate is open to the public.

The debate will focus on the conclusions of the Committee’s recent Reports and the Government’s response, and will also cover relevant recent developments.

The Reports to be debated are:

• Tenth Report, Session 2003-04, Scientific Publications: Free for all?, published on 20 July 2004 as HC 399-I

• Fourteenth Report, Session 2003-04, Responses to the Committee’s Tenth Report, Session 2003-04, Scientific Publications: Free for all?, published as HC 1200 on 8 November 2004.

Also relevant is the subsequent Government response to the Committee’s Fourteenth Report:

• Third Special Report, Session 2004-05, Responses to the Committee’s Tenth Report, Session 2003-04, Scientific Publications: Free for all?: Responses to the Committee’s 14th Report of Session 2003-04, published as HC 249 on 1 February 2005.

Notes for those wishing to attend the debate in Westminster Hall

Members of the public wishing to attend should present themselves at St Stephen’s Entrance where they will be directed through security and to Westminster Hall. It is advisable to allow about 15 minutes for this.  Please ensure that mobile phones and pagers are turned off before entering Westminster Hall.  Under no circumstances should members of the public address Members during the debate.  Those attending the debate are asked to remain silent throughout.

• Under the terms of Standing Order No. 152 the Science and Technology Committee is empowered to examine the “expenditure, policy and administration of the Office of Science and Technology and its associated public bodies”. The Committee was appointed on 19 July 2005.

• The Committee’s Tenth Report, Session 2003-04, Scientific Publications: Free for all? Was published on 20 July 2004 as HC 399-I.  The Committee’s Fourteenth Report, Session 2003-04 was published on 8 November 2004 as HC 1200.  The Government Response was published on 1 February 2005 as the Committee’s Third Special Report, Session 2004-05, Responses to the Committee’s Tenth Report, Session 2003-04, Scientific Publications: Free for all?: Responses to the Committee’s 14th Report of Session 2003-04  (HC 249).
