THE NATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHY CENTRE
The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) announced today the creation of a new, national research organisation that will work in partnership with the UK marine research community to deliver integrated marine science and technology from the coast to the deep ocean.
Commenting on the announcement, Phil Willis MP, Chairman of the Committee, said:
"In our 2007 report Investigating the Oceans, we argued that the importance of marine ecosystems was underappreciated. We welcome the creation of a National Oceanography Centre. We hope that it will realise our vision for marine research that is more coordinated, better resourced and has a higher profile."
