Draft Regulatory Reform (Credit Unions) Order 2003

On 16 December 2002 the Government laid before Parliament the Draft Regulatory Reform (Credit Unions) Order 2003 under the procedure laid down by the Regulatory Reform Act. This order would amend the Credit Unions Act 1979.  It would allow credit unions to charge fees for providing additional basic services (for example-bill payments), make the common bond requirements governing admission to membership more flexible and establish appropriate regulation on the use of the name "credit union".

Draft Regulatory Reform (Assured Periodic Tenancies) (Rent Increases) Order 2003

On 13 January 2003 the Government laid before Parliament the Draft Regulatory Reform (Assured Periodic Tenancies) (Rent Increases) Order 2003 under the procedure laid down by the Regulatory Reform Act.  This order would amend and simplify the existing procedure under section 13 of the Housing Act 1988 for assured periodic tenancies by allowing landlords to set a fixed day for rent increases.

In accordance with its Standing Order, the Committee has considered these orders and has recommended unanimously to the House that these orders be approved.

The Committee's full report will be published as the sixth report at 2.00 pm on 22 January. The report will be available from all Stationery Office outlets (Ref HC 329). It will also be available on the Committee's website from 3.30pm on the day of publication.
