PASC to hear from Lord Butler of Brockwell and Professor Christopher Hood
PASC - the Public Administration Select Committee - will be taking evidence on Thursday from former Cabinet Secretary Lord Butler of Brockwell, and from Professor Christopher Hood, about the conduct of government business - including changes to the machinery of government (altering different departments’ responsibilities) and how they should be handled.
Lord Butler was Cabinet Secretary between 1988 and 1998, serving under three Prime Ministers. He was Chairman of the review of intelligence on weapons of mass destruction in 2004, which was critical of the “sofa government” style of decision-making in the run-up to the war in Iraq. He is also currently a member of the Conservative Party’s Democracy Task Force, chaired by Kenneth Clarke, although he is not a signatory to any party political statements it makes.
Professor Hood is the Gladstone Professor of Government at Oxford University.
The evidence session will take place at 10.00am on Thursday 19 April in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House.
