PASC to question DWP and DCS bosses on complaints
PASC - the Public Administration Select Committee - is continuing its work on Public Services: Putting People First this Thursday when it will question Leigh Lewis, Permanent Secretary of DWP and Terry Moran, Chief Executive of the Disability Carers Service, on complaint handling.
The committee is looking at whether government departments and organisations use complaints effectively, as a way of identifying problems and improving their services. Last year 35% of the complaints the Ombudsman accepted for investigation were about DWP and of those investigated, she upheld 60%. In April this year, DWP will be extending the use of the Independent Complaints examiner from reviewing complaints about the CSA to reviewing complaints about all of its businesses. DCS provides a service for around 5.5 million people but only 72 complaints were accepted by the Ombudsman last year concerning their services.
The evidence session will take place at
Thursday 15 March in the
Grimond Room, Portcullis House.
