PASC to hear from Blunkett and Howard on
the relationship between ministers and civil servants
On Thursday 29 June the Public Administration Select Committee will be taking evidence in public for its inquiry into Politics and Administration: Ministers and Civil Servants. The Committee will hear the views of two former Home Secretaries, Rt Hon Michael Howard QC MP and Rt Hon David Blunkett MP, on where responsibility lies for operational failures in government.
The Committee will also hear from Nick Pearce and Guy Lodge of the Institute of Public Policy Research. The IPPR has been conducing a research project Rethinking Whitehall which is likely to make radical proposals for increasing Civil Service accountability.
The evidence session will take place on
Thursday 29 June in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House, London SW1.

The Committee was nominated on 13 July 2005. Its terms of reference are to examine the reports of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsmen, and to consider matters relating to the quality and standards of administration provided by Civil Service departments, and other matters relating to the Civil Service.
