Press Notice No.18
FORMER DOWNING STREET PRESS CHIEFS GIVE PASC THEIR VERDICT ON CHANGES TO PM'S MEDIA OPERATION
The recent changes in the press office at Number Ten are to be scrutinised next Thursday, 23 October, at a meeting of the Commons Public Administration Select Committee-PASC. Sir Bernard Ingham, formerly Press Secretary to Mrs Thatcher, will be among those giving evidence to an inquiry into the changes recently announced to the Prime Minister's media operation.
Sir Bernard will be joined for the evidence session by Tim Allan, former Deputy Press Secretary to the current Prime Minister and Ivor Gaber, Professor Emeritus of Broadcast Journalism at Goldsmiths University of London. They will be discussing the recent interim report of the Review of Government Communications, chaired by Bob Phillis, Chief Executive of the Guardian Media Group. This suggested major changes to the management of government communications, especially at Number Ten and in the Cabinet Office, and was largely accepted by the Government.
The session will take place at
9.30 on 23 October in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House, London SW1.
Other parts of the Committee's future programme will be announced in due course.
