1 December Session 2006-07 Press Notice No 1
PUBLIC EVIDENCE SESSION:
EARLY DAY MOTIONS
The House of Commons Procedure Committee will hold the second public evidence session in connection with its inquiry into Early Day Motions (EDMs) as follows:
Wednesday 6 December at 3.00pm in Committee Room 20
Witnesses: Dr Malcolm Jack, Clerk of the House and Mr David Natzler, Principal Clerk, Table Office, House of Commons
An uncorrected version of the transcript will appear on the Committee's website within about a week of the date of the session.
On 28 March the Committee took evidence from Norman Baker MP, Rt Hon Douglas Hogg MP and Mr David Kidney MP (transcript available on these pages by clicking on the links).
Likely topics of discussion are:
the uses currently made of EDMs by Members and others;
what opportunities presently exist, and what others might be introduced, to allow EDMs to be brought before and debated by the House;
whether the existing procedures for the tabling and printing of EDMs are appropriate; and
the merits of allowing the tabling of EDMs, and of amendments and added names to them, by electronic means.
As Committee Rooms are liable to change, those attending are advised to check the room location on arrival. The Committee Office recorded information line (020 7219 2033) provides details of select and standing committee meetings being held within the next two days.
