The Committee deliberated (declarations of interest)

Members disclosed their interests pursuant to the Resolution of the House of 13 July 1992.

The interests disclosed by John Cummings are as follows:

“5. Gifts, benefits and hospitality (UK): Visits to the Stadium of Light as a guest of the Chairman of Sunderland AFC. 

6. Overseas visits: 11-16 September 2005, to Romania, as a member of the European Accession Group. Accommodation and travel within Romania paid for by the Romanian Government . (Registered 6 October 2005)

10. Miscellaneous and unremunerated interests: Parliamentary adviser to the National Association of Licensed House Managers. Honorary position, not remunerated in any form.

Parliamentary adviser to the National Association of Councillors. Honorary position, not remunerated in any form.

Occasional fees from surveys and questionnaires, paid direct to Haswell Mencap.”

The interests disclosed by Anne Main were nil.

The Chair reminded members of the need to make further declarations to the Committee should their interests change.

The Chair made an additional declaration relating to a visit to Israel and Palestine, flight and accommodation in Israel funded by the Anglo-Israel Association, travel and accommodation in Palestine funded by a variety of Palestinian NGOs linked to Interpal UK. 

Mark Lancaster made an additional declaration related to the use of a vehicle supplied by Daimler-Chrysler for mobile surgery use only.

Dr John Pugh made an additional declaration relating to an election donation.

Resolved, That the Committee inquire into the Affordability and the Supply of Housing.-( The Chairman).

Resolved, That the Committee inquire into Changes in the Fires Service.-( The Chairman).

Affordability and Supply of Housing inquiry (appointment of Specialist Advisers)

Ordered, That Mrs Christine Whitehead and Mr Richard Bate be appointed Specialist Advisers to assist the Committee in its inquiry into the Affordability and Supply of Housing.-( The Chairman).

Appointment of retained Specialist Advisers

Ordered, That Mr Ted Cantle and Mrs Helen Hayes be appointed Specialist Advisers.-( The Chairman).
