Committee on the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister

As of 27 June 2006 the Committee on the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister: Housing, Planning, Local Government and the Regions has become the Communities and Local Government Committee.

The ODPM Committee was appointed by the House of Commons on July 13th 2005. Its purpose is to scrutinise the work of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister: Housing, Planning, Local Government and the Regions. Following the constitutional changes announced on 5 May 2006, the Department for Communities and Local Government succeeded the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. A motion to amend Standing Order No 152 in order to rename the Committee was put before the House and agreed on 27 June 2006. A new website will be available in the coming weeks. The Committee's membership of eleven is made up exclusively of Members of Parliament. It is appointed for the duration of the Parliament.

Coastal Towns - The Committee will hold its second evidence session for the inquiry into Coastal Towns on Tuesday 4 July. [See Press Notice PN44, Session 2005-06 for further details.]

The Supply of Rented Housing - The Committee has announced a new inquiry into the Supply of Rented Housing [See Press Notice PN42, Session 2005-06 for further details].

Affordability and the Supply of Housing - On Tuesday 20 June the Committee published its Third Report of the Session on the 'Affordability and the Supply of Housing'. [See the Affordability and the Supply of Housing inquiry page for further details].

Concessionary Bus Fares - On 28 February the Committee received a note from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister on the Concessionary Bus Fare scheme. This note can be accessed here.

Planning Performance - The Committee has received a letter from Yvette Cooper MP, Minister for Housing and Planning giving an update of the Department's planning casework performance for all First Secretary of State cases.

Specialist Advisers - Expressions of Interest Sought: The Committee is looking to expand the pool of those on whom it may call for expert advice and assistance with committee inquiries. Expressions of interest are sought from candidates who wish to be considered for appointment during the current Parliamentary Session (ends November 2006).  [See Press Notice PN17, Session 2005-06 for details]
