Press Notice No 23

Statement on the Northern Ireland Executive agreement

Following the announcement today (18 November) that the Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Féin have reached an agreement on devolving policing and justice powers, the Chairman of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee, Sir Patrick Cormack MP, said:

“I greatly welcome this announcement. It was what we were hoping for when we were in Northern Ireland three weeks ago and I am much encouraged that such progress has been made since then.

“To agree the process is far more important than to agree a specific timetable, but I hope the process will be smooth and continuous.”
