Press Notice No 2
Policing and Criminal Justice in Northern Ireland
The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee is to conduct a broad inquiry into the administration of policing and the criminal justice system in Northern Ireland. The first phase of this inquiry will focus on two specific areas of current concern:
The financial and operational consequences for the Police Service Northern Ireland of servicing the various ‘historic inquiries’ into past events in Northern Ireland; and
The effect on the ability of the Police Service Northern Ireland to bring accused persons to trial of provisions in the Inquiries Act 2005 and in other legislation requiring the police to divulge information which might identify a covert source
The Committee regrets that it is unable to investigate individual cases in the course of the inquiry.
The Committee invites any individual or organisation with an interest in these two specific matters to submit written evidence. This should be addressed to the Clerk of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee, 7 Millbank, House of Commons, London SW1P 3JA and should arrive by
Monday 21 January 2007.
Individuals or organisations are requested to submit memoranda (guideline length up to 2000 words) in a Word-compatible file by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with a single additional hard copy in the post.
All submissions must clearly state who is the author is and whether they are writing as an individual or on behalf of an organisation.
