Judicial Co-operation in Criminal Matters

This has become an important part of EU activity, with the establishment of Eurojust in 2002 to assist Member State authorities in confronting the challenges of serious cross-border and organised crime. A number of substantial modifications were proposed in the Constitutional Treaty on the legislative procedures for such activities, and there was also a provision for the creation of a European Public Prosecutor "from Eurojust" if Member States agree to this measure by unanimity.

An extensive Report was published in July 2004 by the Committee on the role of Eurojust.
