Remit - External Relations
The EU has bi-lateral diplomatic relations with a very large number of countries and regions in the world. Of great political significance are its state of relations with the United States, Russia and China, as well as its new strategy towards Iraq and the Middle East. The EU is also seeking to develop greater co-operation with other International Organisations such as the United Nations, the World Bank and the WTO, and with regional organisations such as the African Union, Mercosur and ASEAN.
The Committee has published extensive reports in 2003 on
EU-US relations and
EU-Russia relations, and is constantly monitoring developments in those fields. Current inquiries have been launched on relations between the EU and the African Union, and on co-operation between the EU and the United Nations, and further Evidence Sessions on this will be taking place.
