1. HUMAN RIGHTS  POLICY

Human rights policy: Rt Hon Harriet Harman QC MP, Minister of State, and Mr Edward Adams, Head of Human Rights Division, Department for Constitutional Affairs, were examined.

2. LEGISLATIVE SCRUTINY: FOURTH PROGRESS REPORT

Draft Report [Legislative Scrutiny: Fourth Progress Report], proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read.

Ordered, That the draft Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

Paragraphs 1.1 to 2.13 read and agreed to.

Summary read and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the Seventh Report of the Committee to each House.

Ordered, That a paper be appended to the Report.

Ordered, That the Chairman make the Report to the House of Commons and that Baroness Stern  make the Report to the House of Lords.

3. OTHER BUSINESS

Resolved, That the Committee take evidence from Baroness Ashton of Upholland, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Constitutional Affairs, in connection with its inquiry into UNCAT.

Resolved, That the Committee visit Italy in connection with its inquiry into human trafficking.

Ordered, That the Chairman seek the approval of the House of Commons Liaison Committee in connection with the said visit.

Resolved, That the Committee visit Strasbourg and Geneva in connection with its inquiry into the implementation of European Court of Human Rights judgments in the UK.

Ordered, That the Chairman seek the approval of the House of Commons Liaison Committee in connection with the said visit.

Resolved, That the Committee inquire into the human rights implications of the White Paper Higher Standards, Better Schools for All.

Resolved, That the Committee inquire into the human rights implications of the Government's respect action plan.
