Evidence session on the annual Autumn meetings of the IMF and the World Bank
Each Autumn, the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) hold their Annual Meetings to discuss a range of issues related to poverty reduction, international economic development and finance.
The Committee intends to hold an evidence session relating to the IMF and World Bank, focussing on issues discussed at the Autumn meetings. In particular, the Committee intends to explore issues including debt relief and debt sustainability, conditionality, the governance of the international financial institutions and the voices of developing countries, the UK Government's new World Bank Institutional Strategy, and parliamentary scrutiny of the international financial institutions. The Committee does not intend to produce a report, but will publish the transcript of the evidence session alongside relevant written submissions.
We are awaiting confirmation of witness availability, but the evidence session is expected to take place on
Tuesday 9 November, at
2.30 p.m. Witnesses will include the
Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for International Development, and the
Bretton Woods Project.
THE COMMITTEE INVITES ORGANISATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS WITH RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE TO SUBMIT MEMORANDA, AND ENCOURAGES ORGANISATIONS FROM DEVELOPING COUNTRIES TO MAKE SUBMISSIONS.
Any memorandum of more than six pages should include a summary at the front.
Once submitted, evidence is the property of the Committee and may be published. Evidence should be sent to the Clerk of the Committee ideally by
29 October. If possible, please supply an electronic version in MS Word or Rich Text Format, either by e-mail to
[email protected] or on a disk. If submitted by e-mail or e-mail attachment, a letter should also be sent validating the e-mail. Further guidance on the submission of evidence can be found at
