The Cost of Policing Football Matches

The Home Affairs Committee will hold a "one-off" evidence session on Tuesday 16 June 2009 into the provision of policing at commercial events.

Chairman of the Committee, Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, said:

The provision of police services at commercial events such as football matches is a controversial one; who should pay for this service it is matter of some contention. The session will allow us to contribute to this important debate.

We look forward to hearing from representatives of the police, the Premiership and the Football League and to taking evidence from Dave Whelan of Wigan Athletic and Graham Turner of Hereford United in the light of their well known disputes with the police over this matter.

Location: Room 8, Palace of Westminster.

The session will be open to the public on a first come, first served basis. There is no system for the prior reservation of seats in Committee Rooms. It is advisable to allow about 20 minutes to pass through security checks. Committee room and timing are subject to change.
