The work of the Home Office
The Home Affairs Committee will conduct its annual scrutiny session on the overall work of the Home Office at the following evidence session:
Thursday 13 November 2008
At 12 noon
Rt Hon Jacqui Smith MP, Secretary of State for the Home Office
Grimond Room, Portcullis House
Committee Chairman, Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, said:
"The Committee will be keen to examine the Home Secretary on a number of issues including the resignation of Sir Ian Blair and subsequent claims over the politicisation of the police force, data protection and the DNA database, the Government's policy on Gurkhas and other immigration issues among many others."
"There is a great concern about the changing nature of senior police officers and the constitutional implications this may have. Following the announcement that the Home Office will be conducting a public consultation on some aspects of the Data Communications bill members will be keen to find out what the changes will be and to seek assurances that privacy and protection of data will be an up most priority."
