COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO INQUIRE INTO IMMIGRATION AND NATIONALITY DIRECTORATE
- SCOPING SUGGESTIONS SOUGHT

The Home Affairs Committee announced today that it has decided in principle to conduct an inquiry into the Home Office's Immigration and Nationality Directorate (IND). The inquiry will look into aspects of the operation and effectiveness of IND and the system of visa applications (which is a joint Home Office/Foreign and Commonwealth Office responsibility).

The Committee will carry out a 'scoping' process before announcing more detailed terms of reference later in the year. As part of this process, the Committee seeks brief suggestions (maximum 300 words) from interested parties as to what topics and areas of concern the inquiry could most usefully focus on. Responses are requested by 10 October 2005.

Please note that this is not a request for formal written submissions in the inquiry proper, which will follow when the scoping process is complete.

Responses should give the name and postal address of the person sending the response. If it is from an organisation rather than an individual, it should briefly explain the nature and membership of the organisation.

Responses should be sent to the Clerk of the Committee at the address below.  If possible, please supply an electronic version in MS Word or Rich Text format, either by e-mail to [email protected] or on a disk.
