Home Affairs Committee

Session 2004-05, dated 04 February 2005


The Home Affairs Committee publishes its Annual Report, Work of the Committee in 2004 (HC 280), at 11.00 am on Wednesday 9 February, as the Second Report of the Committee this Session.

The Committee's work over the past year has included inquiries into Identity Cards, which included scrutiny of the Government's draft Bill, and the Rehabilitation of Prisoners. The Committee also began inquiries into Anti-Social Behaviour, Police Reform and Terrorism and Community Relations.

Wide-ranging annual oral evidence sessions with the Home Secretary and with the Permanent Secretary at the Home Office have allowed the Committee to examine departmental expenditure and performance.

The Committee has begun its work on scrutinising the draft Sentencing Guidelines produced  by the Sentencing Guidelines Council.
