MPs VISIT HMP BELMARSH TO INSPECT DETAINEES' CONDITIONS

A cross party group of MPs today visited Belmarsh high security prison to inspect the conditions for those detained without charge under anti-terrorism legislation.

The 6 members of the Home Affairs Committee spent the morning speaking to a group of 4 detainees, to their Prison Imam and to the Prison Governor. Their time in the prison also included an extensive tour of facilities for visits, education, health and recreation.

The Committee was generally satisfied with the conditions under which the detainees are being held, which are the same conditions in which Category A convicted prisoners are held.
