Home Affairs Committee Press Notice

Session 2002-03, dated 13 March 2003

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

The Government yesterday published its white paper, Respect and Responsibility-Taking a Stand against Anti-Social Behaviour (Cm. 5778).  The Government intends in the near future to publish a bill implementing the proposals set out in the white paper.

The Home Affairs Committee will take evidence on the white paper (and, if published by then, the bill) on Tuesday 25 March at 9 am.  The witness will be the Rt Hon John Denham MP, Minister of State at the Home Office.

This session will take place in a committee room in either the Palace of Westminster or Portcullis House.  It will be open to the public on a first come, first served basis. If you wish to confirm these details closer to the meeting please telephone the Committee Information Line on 020 7219 2033.

The Committee would be grateful to receive written comments on the white paper to inform the questioning on 25 March.  Please note that because the evidence session has been arranged at short notice, the deadline for submissions is extremely tight-we would be grateful to receive comments, if possible (and however brief) by next Tuesday, 18 March. Anyone wishing to submit a memorandum which was not originally written for the Committee (e.g. a paper which was written for the Home Office as part of a consultation exercise) should indicate for whom the paper was written. If possible, any such documents should be in Word, Rich Text Format or Word Perfect and should be sent electronically to [email protected] , or by fax to 020 7219 2744.  In the case of faxed documents, it would be helpful if hard copy could also be posted to the Clerk of the Home Affairs Committee, House of Commons, London SW1A 3JP.
