Session 2005-06 First meeting and election of Chairman

Mr Kevin Barron MP was elected as Chairman of the Committee at its first meeting today. A further press notice will be issued shortly announcing a programme of inquiries.

The Health Committee is a Select Committee of the House of Commons appointed under Standing Order No. 152 to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the Department of Health and associated public bodies. The Committee has the power to send for persons, paper and records.

The Committee's membership, as agreed by the House on Wednesday 13 July 2005, is as follows:
