The Committee deliberated.

Ordered, That Professor Philip James and Professor Martin Jarvis be appointed as Specialist Advisers to assist the Committee in its inquiry into the Public Health White Paper.-( The Chairman.)

Ordered, That Professor Andrew Webster be appointed a Specialist Adviser to assist the Committee in its inquiry into The Use of New Medical Technologies within the NHS.-( The Chairman.)

Ordered, That Professor Gerard Hastings be appointed a Specialist Adviser to assist the Committee in its inquiry into The Influence of the Pharmaceutical Industry.-( The Chairman.)

Ordered, That Professor Philip James and Professor Martin Jarvis be appointed as Specialist Advisers to assist the Committee in its inquiry into the Public Health White Paper (Cm 6374).-( The Chairman.)

Resolved, That subject to its right to publish any evidence it receives, the Committee, in principle, treat as confidential the papers sent for from pharmaceutical companies under the Order of the Committee [8 December 2004].

The Influence of the Pharmaceutical Industry: Ms Margot James, European President, Ogilvy Healthworld, Mr Mike Paling, Managing Director, Paling Walters, Dr Richard Horton, Editor, The Lancet, Ms Jenny Hope, Medical Correspondent, Daily Mail and Ms Lois Rogers, Medical Editor, Sunday Times, were examined.
