Foreign Affairs Committee: Press Notice

4 April 2008

SCRUTINY OF APPOINTMENT HEARING

ANNOUNCEMENT OF ORAL EVIDENCE SESSION

In August 2007 it was announced that the Rt Hon Jack McConnell, Scottish Labour leader and former First Minister of Scotland, would become the next British High Commissioner to Malawi, after being nominated by the Prime Minister. The current High Commissioner's posting is due to end in 2009.

On Wednesday 23 April 2008 the Foreign Affairs Committee will take oral evidence from Mr McConnell. This is in accord with the Committee's previous decision to conduct scrutiny of the appointment of individuals outside the diplomatic service to senior diplomatic posts. The oral evidence session will give the Committee an opportunity to explore the reasons for Mr McConnell's proposed appointment.

Wednesday 23 April 2008

2.30 pm Rt Hon Jack McConnell MSP

The meeting will take place in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House.
