Committee announces new inquiry into FCO Human Rights Annual Report 2006

The Foreign Affairs Committee is holding an inquiry into the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Human Rights Annual Report 2006. 

In its first oral evidence session the Committee will take evidence from Kate Allen, Director of Amnesty International UK, and from Tom Porteous, London Director of Human Rights Watch. The session will be on Wednesday, 24 January at 9.30am in Committee Room 16 in the House of Commons.

On Wednesday, 7 February at 2.30pm the Committee will take evidence from Rt Hon Ian McCartney MP, Minister of State for Trade and from Foreign and Commonwealth Office officials. This session will be in the Wilson Room, Portcullis House.

The Committee welcomes written memoranda for this inquiry. 1.The Foreign Affairs Committee is responsible for scrutinising the “administration, expenditure and policy” of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and its associated agencies. 2. Committee meetings are open to the public. Access is via St Stephen's Entrance for the House of Commons Committee Rooms and the main entrance on the Thames Embankment for Portcullis  House Rooms. It is advisable to allow about 10 minutes to pass through security checks. There is no system for the prior reservation of seats in the Committee Rooms.
