FCO Departmental Annual Report 2008-09
The Foreign Affairs Committee announced on
14 July 2009 that it would carry out an inquiry into the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s latest Annual Departmental Report, as it has done in previous years. The FCO published its
Annual Report for 2008-09 on 30 June 2009. In its report, the FCO describes its work in 2008-09 and assesses its own performance under its eight Departmental Strategic Objectives for 2008-11. The FCO’s report also covers internal organisational and management change in the Department, including public diplomacy work; and the Department’s financial management and performance.
The Committee conducts its inquiry into the FCO’s Annual Report each year as part of its responsibility for scrutinising the expenditure, administration and policy of the FCO and associated public bodies. As part of its inquiry, the Committee scrutinises the operation of the two most important public bodies associated with the FCO, the British Council and the BBC World Service.
