Foreign Affairs Committee: Inquiries

Developments in the European Union

The Foreign Affairs Committee has had an ongoing inquiry into "Developments in the EU" since 2001. General information about inquiries and how the Committee operates can be found at http://www.parliament.uk/parliamentary_committees/foreign_affairs_committee/fac_remit.cfm.

Its "Developments in the EU" inquiry allows the Committee to take evidence on EU-related matters on an ongoing basis. As a minimum, the Committee takes evidence from the Foreign Secretary twice a year, before the June and December meetings of the European Council (of EU Heads of State or Government). The Committee also normally visits the country holding the six-monthly EU Presidency, and makes regular visits to the EU institutions in Brussels and to other European countries. The Committee has taken a particular interest in EU institutional reform, EU enlargement and neighbourhood policy, and the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
