MEETING BETWEEN MPs, PEERS AND MEPs

On Tuesday 2 November at 1.40 p.m. members of the European Scrutiny Committee and several departmental select committees, members of the House of Lords European Union Committee and MEPs representing UK constituencies will meet informally at Westminster to discuss matters of common interest, including the EU's financial arrangements for 2007-13 and the programme of justice and home affairs measures for the next five years.  This is the fourth such meeting bringing together UK MEPs and national parliamentarians.  The meeting will be in private.

Note for Editors

The main purpose of the European Scrutiny Committee is to report to the House on the legal and political importance of each EU document and to determine which EU documents are debated.  Such debates take place either in a European Standing Committee or on the Floor of the House.  The Committee normally reports weekly on a range of documents when the House is sitting.  The Committee also monitors business in the Council of Ministers, especially the activities of UK Ministers in the Council, and produces occasional reports on wider EU developments.
