1. Subsidiarity and the Role of National Parliaments

Professor Simon Hix, Professor of European and Comparative Politics, Department of Government, London School of Economics and Political Science, gave oral evidence.

3. The Committee met in public for the scrutiny of documents

Draft Report, proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read.

Ordered, That the draft Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

Paragraphs 1.1 to 19 read and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the Twenty-seventh Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman make the Report to the House.

4. Pre-Presidency Visit to the Czech Republic

Resolved, That the Committee visit the Czech Republic in November 2008 for a visit to the Member State which is due to take over the Presidency of the European Union, and that the Chairman seek the approval of the Liaison Committee for expenditure in connection with the said visit.
