15 December 2005 New Environmental Audit Committee Chairman Elected

Following his appointment as to the Opposition Front Bench, Mr Peter Ainsworth MP has stood down as Chairman of the Environmental Audit Committee.  At its meeting today, Thursday 15 December 2005, the Committee unanimously elected Mr Tim Yeo MP to serve as the new Chairman.

Declaration of Interests

The following is an extract from the Committee's Minutes of Proceedings for today, Thursday 15 December:

Resolved, That Mr Tim Yeo do take the Chair of the Committee.

The Chairman declared pecuniary interests as a Director of Univent plc, as an writer of occasional articles for Country Life magazine and a fortnightly column inn the Weekend FT and for a speech on 7 June 2005 to Yorkshire Fiscal Group. (Up to £5,000)

The Chairman declared non-pecuniary interests for a complimentary membership of the London Golf Club for 2005 (Registered 28 February 2005), loan of a private jet for two domestic flights from Netjets plc (Registered 14 June 2005), and a two night stay at Gleneagles Hotel (23-25 June 2005), accommodation and meals provided by the hotel (Registered 20 July 2005).

The Chairman declared overseas visits on 10-15 November 2004, to Cuba, to meet Cuban Government officials and to carry out research for writing an article for Weekend FT (see above) fares and accommodation paid for by Sherritt International (Registered 29 November 2004); 29 October - 1 November 2004, to Dubai to carry out research for writing two articles for Weekend FT (see above) fares and accommodation paid for by the Seasons in Style (a travel company) (Registered 8 December 2004); 10-19 February 2005, to the United States to carry out research for an article in Weekend FT, fares and accommodation paid for by the Financial Times (Registered 28 February 2005); and 17-20 August 2005, to Washington DC, to stay at the Congressional Country Club as a guest of James Singerling (Chief Executive Officer of the Club Managers Association of America) (Chair paid his own fares) (Registered 24 August 2005).

The Chairman declared registrable shareholdings in Anacol Holdings Ltd.; a family investment company.
