URGENT EVIDENCE SESSION

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee has today decided urgently to take evidence about the issues surrounding and decisions made in relation to the US 'ghost' ships.

It has invited the Environment Agency and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to give evidence next Wednesday, 19 November 2003. The evidence session will be organised as follows:

The Committee was due to take evidence on 19 November in relation to its inquiry into the Marine Environment. That evidence session will be re-arranged, and the new session will be announced in due course.

NEW CHAIRMAN ELECTED

The Committee has elected Rt Hon Michael Jack MP to be its Chairman. Mr Jack succeeds Rt Hon David Curry MP, who resigned as Chairman today following his appointment to the Shadow Cabinet.

The Committee normally meets in a Committee Room at Westminster.  Because there are often last minute changes of Room and meetings may be held in either the Palace of Westminster or Portcullis House, those wishing to attend should check the venue by contacting the Committee Office Information Line on 020 7219 2033 on the day before the hearing.
