STATEMENT

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee yesterday took oral evidence from Rt Hon Peter Mandelson MP, from the Environment Agency, and from Elliot Morley MP, the Minister for Environment and Agri-Environment about the issues surrounding and decisions made in relation to the US 'ghost' ships.

The transcript of the oral evidence taken will be available on the internet later today. Also available will be the written evidence received by the Committee from Friends of the Earth, the Mayor of Hartlepool, the RSPB, Frank Cook MP, and Able UK. The documents can be reached either via:

The Committee has also made the following statement:

"The evidence session has shown that matters surrounding the dismantling of the 'Ghost Ships' raise a wide range of issues, including those of national, European and international law. These will require further investigation and we have therefore decided that we will return to this subject as soon as is practicable."
