Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee

SESSION 2003-04
9 January 2004 VETS AND VETERINARY SERVICES:

9 January 2004 VETS AND VETERINARY SERVICES:
DELAY IN GOVERNMENT REPLY

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee published its report into Vets and Veterinary Services on 23 October 2003 [HC (2002-03) 703]. The Government reply was therefore due by the end of December 2003.

On 16 December 2003 the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs wrote to the Committee to set out the progress made in establishing a working party with the veterinary profession to follow up the Committee's report. Mrs Beckett asked whether a full response to the report might be delayed until after the working party has completed its work, which is expected to be in the Summer.

At its meeting this week the Committee agreed that the Government reply could be made later in the year. Once the reply has been received the Committee will publish it in the usual way.
