New Inquiry


The Defence Committee is today announcing its first inquiry of 2009, into the Defence Support Group (DSG). This inquiry was at the head of the list of inquires drawn up by the Committee in its press release of 5 November this year

The Defence Support Group is a wholly owned UK Government Trading Fund established to support the Armed Forces and deliver wider defence objectives in support of the Defence Industrial Strategy objectives. It was launched on 1 April 2008 following the merger of the Army Base Repair Organisation (ABRO) and the Defence Aviation Repair Agency (DARA).

The Committee expects to take evidence from DSG in the House of Commons on Tuesday 20 January at 10.30 am. The Committee would welcome written evidence to the inquiry. In particular, it would welcome views on:

  • the future work, role and status of the Defence Support Group;
  • the viability of DSG, particularly wit regard to its remaining aviation business;
  • the success of the merger of ABRO and DARA;
  • the strategic importance off maintaining current DSG skills and abilities within an MoD Trading Fund; and
  • the impact of the increased tempo of operations on DSG’s current and future activity.

Written evidence should be sent to the Clerk of the Defence Committee by Tuesday 13 January 2009.
