Broadcasting rights for cricket
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee will publish its
First Report, Broadcasting rights for cricket (HC 720) at 00.01 hrs on Wednesday 1 February 2006.
There will be a press conference to launch the Report in Committee Room 16 in the Main Building at the House of Commons, 11.00am on Wednesday 1 February.
Advance copies of the Report for witnesses to the inquiry and the media will be available from 12 noon on Tuesday 31 January under strict embargo from the Reception at No.7 Millbank, and in the Press Gallery.
The report will also be available via the parliamentary website from 3pm on the day of publication.
The inquiry’s terms of reference were announced by press notice on 19 October 2005:
“The Culture, Media and Sport Committee has decided to inquire into the acquisition of broadcasting rights for cricket, including Test Matches played in England.
The Committee is particularly interested in (a) the availability of cricket coverage to television and radio audiences through out the United kingdom; (b) the commercial procedures governing the acquisition of broadcasting rights, and constraints imposed by the statutory framework within which they operate; and (c) the importance of the income and exposure associated with broadcasting rights in fostering excellence and participation in cricket.”
