The Culture, Media and Sport Committee will publish its Sixth Report, The Market for Art (HC 414) at 10.00am on Wednesday 6 April 2005.
There will be a press conference to launch the Report in the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House at 10.00am.
Advance copies of the Report for witnesses to the inquiry and the media will be available from 9.00am under strict embargo from (1) the Thatcher Room, (2) the Reception at No.7 Millbank, and (3) in the Press Gallery.
The report will also be available via the parliamentary website from 3pm on the day of publication.
The inquiry’s terms of reference were announced by press notice on 18 January:
“The Culture, Media and Sport Committee has agreed to inquire into the sponsorship, by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, of the United Kingdom art market. A particular focus is ways of supporting and encouraging living artists and the production of new work.
“The Committee is also interested in establishing what scope exists to promote best practice in the conduct of financial relationships between artists and art market professionals. Views are also sought on the future operation and likely impact of European Directive 2001/84/EC on artists’ resale right (droit de suite).”
